Performance and Efficiency Evaluation of Airports. The Balance Between DEA and MCDA Tools
(Conference Proceeding)
Conference: | 1st International Conference of the Airport Development Series – AIRDEV |
Year: | 2012 |
Location: | Lisboa, Portugal |
Abstract
Airport benchmarking depends on airport performance and efficiency indicators which are also important issues for business and operational management, regulatory bodies, airlines and passengers. There are several sets of indicators to evaluate airports performance and efficiency as well as several techniques to benchmark such infrastructures. The aims of this work are of two orders: to balance DEA and MCDA tools, and to show how to provide the stakeholders with a more user-friendly one to benchmark airports. Thus, using MacBeth, a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis tool, we evaluate firstly the efficiency of a set of worldwide airports and secondly we make the self benchmarking of two Portuguese ones. The results evidence how this new approach seems to be very promising when compared with those traditionally in use.
